Kayaking & Rafting

Hokitikia is a mecca for whitewater kayakers across the globe. The unique unspoilt rivers are world famous for the crystal clear blue water, beautiful gorges and stunning bush. The rivers drop from the Southern Alps to the sea in a relatively short distance.
The lower reaches of these rivers are ideal for beginners who enjoy class 1 and 2 rapids. Frequent rainfall is perfect for upstream sections of the river which provide great class 3/4 rapids.
For the more adventurous kayakers the gem of New Zealand is a helicopter flight up to one of the steep 'heli-runs' on the coast. These whitewater adventres offer the paddlers access to sheer sided gorges, true wilderness and up to 3 days of nail biting class 5 kayaking. Multi day trips make use of the extensive network of backcountry huts.
Popular runs include: Arahura, Hokitika, Whitcombe, Styx, Toaroa, Kokatahi, Totara, Kaniere, Kakapotahi, Waitaha.
