Welcome to Hokitika, the cool little town. When you think of the West Coast of New Zealand you think wild beauty, genuine experiences and friendly characters. Well we reckon Hokitika is all that and more - the best small town holiday on the West Coast.
Beachside town centre
Think of those fun-filled, relaxed holidays you used to have, then throw in better coffee, a wild beach and awesome sunsets. You will find retail and service shops, great cafes, quality galleries and many choices of accommodation in Hokitika.
Whether you're looking for a family holiday or an outdoor adventure, Hokitika has it. Lake Mahinapua and Lake Kaniere offer boating and swimming, wild rivers offer whitebaiting, trout and salmon fishing and kayaking and there are numerous mountain bike trails and walks in Hokitika. And the Hokitika Gorge is well worth a visit.

Hokitika is the perfect base for your wider West Coast holiday. The Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, Punakaiki's Pancake Rocks and Arthur's Pass are just a day trip away.
It's easy getting to Hokitika
It is not hard to get here either. Hokitika is a 3.5 hour drive from Christchurch, Hokitika Airport has direct daily flights from Christchurch on AirNZ and the world famous Tranz Alpine train is just up the road in Greymouth.
Luminaries Lights up Hokitika
Congratulations to Eleanor Catton and her 2013 Man Booker prize winning novel The Luminaries. Set in our cool little town of Hokitika in 1866, it is a rip-roaring whodunit that brings to life much of the gold history of Hokitika.
